Had a birthday thai 12 plate meal inâŠ
Had a birthday thai 12 plate meal in stadhampton. The food was advertised as top quality, but is was well below standard thai food. The dining room was run down like a junk shop. I would never go there again, and I think the Group-on deal is very poor value and only a complete fool would pay full price. The champange tasted watered down. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!
Overpriced, misleading package deals & horrendous customer service
A nice enough hotel with interesting rooms. But the customer service team are non-existent, impossible to get hold of, they donât answer the phone, donât return calls, donât reply to emails, you literally have no means of getting in touch with them! If you buy a package online, you can only book to use it over the phone, but thats not an option when they donât answer the phone! Be very wary!
Bought an expensive package to include a 3 course dinnerâŠâŠbut they omit to tell you that the main course is not a course, itâs just a dish with no accompaniments. So youâre made to purchase a ridiculously expensive portion of rice (or similar) to make your single dish into an actual course! Not worth the money at all, wonât return!
Thieves!!!!
Bought a voucher through another 3rd party company for the 12 plate Thai tasting menu with champagne at the Crazy Bear! I rang in August to book in and this was followed up with an email and I received confirmation of the booking. This was for my boyfriendâs birthday in December!
We travelled 5 hours down to Stadhampton staying locally the evening before to receive a standard email cancellation at 6pm to say reservation cancelled with no explanation! I tried to contact both Stadhampton where Iâd booked and their sister in Beaconsfield for several hours (both hotel and restaurant numbers) and got no answer, I sent an email, no reply and I left a voicemail requesting re-contact which didnât happen for several days! As they had redeemed my voucher on booking in August the company had my money so we attended Crazy Bear Stadhampton to find out what was happening. I was met by the general manager who informed me they no longer offered the 12 plate Thai with champagne on a lunchtime, but I could have a Sunday dinner if I wanted! I was so disappointed! My boyfriendâs birthday was spoilt! I asked for a refund and was informed this would be sorted! I was also offered an overnight stay which never materialised! The general manager gave me his contact details to arrange the refund, however after several emails, excuses and the assurances that it had been raised internally I am yet to see any of the money I paid refunded and I am no longer being responded to! Struggled with the 3rd party company refund as they said my voucher had been redeemed by Crazy Bear in August when I booked!
Shocking
Shocking, we stayed in a Snug room, as this was already £298 for the stay and the cheapest way to try the place out ( you still expect something good for the price) went into reception to check in quickly made to pay £150 holding fee and then got escorted across the main road to the flats type building on the other side of the room, no amenities over there, this already makes it extremely difficult to use the pool etc as you would have to get completely ready there before and after to walk across the busy main road getting back, so we were shown to our room as quickly as possible you almost got the Impression if you book there "cheap" rooms they like to keep you away from there main clientell and the nice rooms which are at the actual hotel... we entered our room and was quite literally taken back by the sheer size, although we booked a Snug we did not expect to have a attic style roof coming into half the ceiling area, broken lights, dirty rose petals blowing out from under the bed and lots under the mattress, dust, hair, a mascara under the table and a dirty sock. We continued to look around in disgust moved the chair which literally left a pattern on the floor of dust and dirt, we then went over to reception but there were no other rooms available so we needed to lump it, the TV also did not work, the idea was to take my wife here for her 30th but we ended up being out of the room as much a possible because of the chlostrophopia and dirt, I'm still not finished here, there was a broken floor time in the shower cupboard which tries to take skin of your toes, the shower gels were completely empty, so washed with conditioner only, Needless to say I would never return nor recommend this place, if this place was on four in a bed I would pay 40 to 50 pound for this night and think myself generous.
Dirty rooms and no response from Manager Mark G !!
I was deeply disappointed with the cleanliness and overall condition of the room during my stay. There was chewing gum found on light switches and in the bed, as well as bottle caps and plastic seals left scattered around the room. The blinds were very dusty, and the lights did not function properly. Additionally, I witnessed a staff member opening a coffee package with their mouth, which I found highly unhygienic.
As instructed by the hotel staff upon check-out, I submitted a formal complaint to Mark G. However, despite multiple attempts to reach out via phone and email, I have yet to receive any response. Booking.com has also made numerous attempts to contact the hotel on my behalf, but they have been unsuccessful as well.
Given the lack of professionalism and the poor condition of the facilities, I strongly advise caution before booking here. Unfortunately, my experience was far from the standard portrayed in promotional materials, and I am left feeling very disappointed by the overall service.
Great event let down by the hotel room
Let's do the positives 1st: -
The staff were all very friendly & accomodating. Also, the reason for our stay was to attend an event, The Vampire Ball. This was a brilliant event, fun, entertaining, well organised & great value for the ticket price (not included in the room rate obviously). Considering how busy it was, the bar staff were incredibly efficient and the organisers made us feel very welcome. The entertainment was also great, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and as residents we were able to chill out in the hotel bar afterwards. Cannot say enough about that experience.
However, there was a big negative that did take the gloss of what should have been a fantastic night: -
I really do struggle to comprehend how you can justify the extortionate price for our "decadent" room. It wasn't that big, it was tired looking, had no special features or facilities and whilst the dim lighting was supposedly to make it atmospheric, tell that to a lady who is trying to do her make up for a special event. There needs to be at least a brighter lamp on the dressing table or dimmer switches on the lights. Other guests were also complaining about this. Small details like the shampoo bottle in the shower being empty don't help either. Having stayed in a suite at the Beaconsfield hotel, we were expecting something special for in excess of £500.00 / night.
Based on this experience, we shall definitely be returning to the Vampire Ball next year but will be staying in a local hotel & getting taxis to and from the event which is a real shame!
The stay was a shambles from start toâŠ
The stay was a shambles from start to finish. We arrived to a dirty room with marks and the bed and rose petals on the floor from the previous occupants. We notified reception immediately who advised while we were out at dinner they would have the room cleaned, which they did and offered a late check out as an apology which we accepted only to be charged for the late check out when we left. Then for dinner I have never been so insulted in my entire adult life with what you thought was acceptable to be served as a £40 steak which the table next to us also commented on that you should be ashamed of your selfâs for thinking it is acceptable to be serving that I will attach a photo .Completely shocked that you charge the prices you do and provide standards you would not receive in a weatherspoons.
Shocking experience⊠AVOID at ALL costs.
Giving them one star because you have to give something otherwise it would be into negative stars!!
We used to be massive fans of Crazy Bear and have stayed at both Stadhampton and Beaconsfield. We recently went to Beaconsfield for my birthday and initially things werenât too bad but the place looks tired not decadent now, staff were disinterested, there was a huge delay seating us despite having a dinner booking. There was another couple arguing with the concierge because their booking had been lostâŠ
Throughout our stay, my wife joked with me because there was only one robe in the bedroom and she kept teasing me, asking me what mine was like as hers was plush and comfy. I didnât think much of it until the following day when my wife got a call shortly after we checked out accusing us of stealing the other one!!
We were absolutely fuming so I rang reception and demanded to speak to a manager. After various delaying tactics I was told he may not take my call anyway at which point I said trust me heâs going to speak to me.
I then spoke to a great wet lettuce Duty Manager who told me how rigourous their housekeeping processes are and they are very sure of their room inventory and would not process my refund of the holding fee that they had decided to keep. I was told I would have to put any complaint in writing before a refund would be issued and he would have to investigate anyway.
I pointed out that when reception called my wife to accuse us of stealing, they also let slip that Crazy Bear has been having all sorts of problems keeping track of its inventory and housekeeping never log things properly.
As a business that should have set alarm bells ringing and maybe prompted some kind of internal investigation before they called loyal customers to accuse them of being thieves.
Anyway, the great wet lettuce of a duty manager was told in no uncertain terms that I expected a call back that night to give me a status update. When he did ring me back (Iâll give him credit for that at least), he was suddenly incredibly apologetic and admitted that it was an âadministration error at their end and everything was in orderâ. The holding fee was going to be refunded, but I would have to wait between three and five working days because they had processed it as a payment by that point.
I am absolutely dumbfounded that a business would jump to conclusions and immediately start calling their loyal customers thieves rather than take a look at their own shortcomings in the first instance. They have offered no kind of compensation, no offer of a discount or a free stay or anything to make it up to us. Sorry doesnât cut it Iâm afraid
We will not be staying with Crazy Bear ever again and my advice to everybody reading this is to steer well clear. The place is clearly going down the pan and if they treat loyal customers like this they have a short shelf life⊠avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid.
Once you have done all of that avoiding ⊠avoid some more.
Disgusting attitude.
Disturbing stay: poor service and unacceptable activities.
Unfortunately, we have given the Crazybeargroup several opportunities to rectify a catalogue of issues that we, as a group of 4, experienced back in June this year. From poor service, terrible standards, no 'quiet' common areas, and witnessing a drug transaction! We have been told that the management team thank us for our comments, will speak to staff and view the internal CCTV footage! I do not think this is adequate and would absolutely not recommend this hotel group.
Avoid or you will regret it
Booked Thai massage for my partner. DREADFUL. Avoid. Surly rude therapist who delivered the treatment IN GLOVES!!!!!!!. Cold smelly shed for a treatment room. What is even worse is, we reported it politely and manager promised to get back to us with solution to rectify... Now 10 days and heard nothing. Emailed the Group customer service manager, Mark... NOTHING. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID.
We had a wonderful Sunday Lunch hereâŠ
We had a wonderful Sunday Lunch here today
My Husband had booked Beaconsfield by mistake A wonderful Lady sorted it all out I think she was the Manageress She found us a table and we had a wonderful meal
The Staff are amazing helpful courteous a credit to your company
Well done Crazy Bear
Overhyped and overpriced
"We were after a special evening as it was our anniversary but unfortunately Crazy Bear didnât live up to our expectations. The bar area (albeit a tad OTT and tacky) was nice and buzzy and the cocktails were delicious. (Be aware that they add a huge tip on the machine without asking you.)
The problems started once we sat down for dinner. We ordered a dozen oysters. Every single one of them had bits of shell in them. Then the chateubriand arrived⊠the most disappointing piece of overcooked meat (which weâd asked for medium rare). The âtripleâ cooked fries were anemic, hardly cooked the once, let alone three times, and everything was under seasoned. The most awful was the sticky toffee pudding though. 1/2 inch at best of dry sponge. Looked like it was the top of a cake which had been sadly put on the plate. Added to that was a cold caramel sauce and not more than a large teaspoon of ice cream. Inedible! And at £12 to boot. Absolute rip off. Needless to say that we were not happy. The waitress was very sweet and was embarrassed by the whole thing. Offered us 50% off the whole bill. Tbh, wasnât even worth that!l would go for a drink but would never eat there again.
Should be renamed Greedy Bear
Shocking. Should be renamed the Greedy Bear. This is without doubt an overpriced overhyped and tacky establishment. On arrival we were shown to our rooms âacross the lobby â which was in fact the main road and into another building. At this point I did wonder how we were expected to cross the road in our robes and swimsuits to use the jacuzzi and pool. Needless to say we didnât. I appreciate a snug room is just that but one so small that you canât fit a door on the bathroom is not expected when paying through the nose. I also understand the quirky gothic ambience but this more like cheap tarts boudoir with the pvc wall and floor and lights so dim apart from the flashing smoke alarm all night. We were advised that room service was available but thank goodness we didnât take advantage of this, given that when being brought 4 drinks and some nuts all of 10 feet from bar to our table, we were charged £9.99 service each time. We were all looking forward to the fine dining experience advertised and observed the dress code of no trainers in the restaurant. Unfortunately they did fail to advertise that you could vape , swear and play Tik Tok videos on your phone and generally annoy other diners. This apparently is acceptable. The food was in part inedible and we had to send back the £95 Tomahawk steak which in all fairness they did not quibble and removed from the bill. Chips were great ð I only wish we had read the reviews prior and booked the Stadhampton venue. Unfortunately it looks like the new management in Beaconsfield have recruited very young and very apathetic staff with no aptitude for hospitality. Although breakfast was included we could not wait to leave and get on the road and not have to spend another minute in the grubby venue.
I have had the worst experience ever
I have had the worst experience ever! I have booked this hotel for 29th September for my partner's birthday treat. I had decadence room booked, which is nearly double the price of cosy room and on arrival we have been told that only cosy room is available for us (no bath in the room!) Eventually we had to leave, as I would not pay the maximum price for the room and getting the cheapest one instead. This has messed up our day so much leaving us with massive disappointment and wasted a few hours for travel for nothing... On arrival I have asked to blow some balloons and decorate the room for my partner, which ended up with leaving them behind as we had to leave the room. How can you book a decadence room and been told on arrival that they are fully booked! Such a joke. Never again. Arranging childcare for our daughter at the same time wasn't easy. so much money wasted for travel, childcare and preparations... (cake, balloons etc) :(((((((
Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield
Booked on their website and received an email with reservation confirmation. On arrival there was no one at reception. After waiting 5 minutes, had to interrupt the barman who was busy chatting with a colleague, to get someone to come and greet us. They had no record of the booking. (24 hours later I received an email from them saying they were sorry I had had to cancel... If only I had!)
They found a spare table in the English Restaurant and we were left to consult the menu. For ages.
Finally someone came and asked if we would like some water, and when that came we placed our order: a couple of cocktails, starter, main course, and wine to go with main course. Waited for another age, and the starters arrived, followed shortly afterwards by the cocktails!
After that the main courses were brought and, despite our asking, no wine. After another long wait, trying to attract any of the staff, got our wine. The red wine was the last bit of a bottle, eventually "topped up" from another...
The food was reasonably good. The service - such as it was - was abysmal. I resent having a 13.5% "service charge" added to what was an overpriced meal.
As we left, there were three members of what were theoretically the "waiting staff" busy chatting to each other in the lobby. Not one of them could be bothered to wish us good night or thank us for visiting.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Terrible food, TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Terrible food, Way way Overpriced
1 x Jasmin rice £7, Pak Choi for £14 is an absolute joke, Prawn crackers £6
Sub par food, I ordered the Beef Massaman Curry which was absolutely awful. Smothered in sauce and the meat was not seasoned in the slightest, plus it was as tough as bricks. The food is an abomination to actual Thai cuisine. I would not recommend this over priced restaurant to anyone. If you go for a set menu, they shaft you on the extras. Bearing in mind they also add 13.5% service charge. Ridiculous, DO NOT EAT THERE.
Second time we stayed
Second time we stayed - they stopped the glass of champagne on arrival - charged £609 for a night dinner and breakfast- food is excellent but staff have no idea what is going on - charged £143 for dinner and wine which we were told was included until I complained and they took it off - no costs on bar drinks menu so you have no idea what they are charging , coffee room but canât have Tea! Reception have no idea what they are doing - badly run such a shame as your running the hotel into the ground as your staff donât know how to manage it!!! Only person who had any idea was your manager who was helpful - they even tried to charge us for breakfast I had to prove it was included on my email - shambles - !!
Spectacularly awful
Spectacularly awful. The service was average at best and in desperate need of proper training. The food was some of the worst weâve had in quite some time. Total lack of attention to detail. All show and no go. Just not good enough, especially when itâs billed and a high end establishment. Iâm sorry to say that I Would not recommend at all.
Crazy bear Beaconsfield.
Stayed at the crazy bear Beaconsfield.
Omg the meal was absolutely delicious in the Thai restaurant.
The bed room was very quirky and dark.
Cool bathroom with heated floor.
Definitely worth doing once.
avoid!!
We had a room booked at the crazy bear Beaconsfield for our anniversary & first night away from our 4 month old son.
As you know, the prices of these rooms are quite a lot. However, we wanted to treat ourselves and expected to be paying for the best of the best.
The crazy bear group is a 5* establishment but yet sadly does not match this rating at all when it comes to its staff & customer service!
My partner booked a cosy room for us to celebrate our anniversary, through booking.com.
We were checked in by a lovely member of staff who was really helpful. We were given lots of information. For example we were told there would be a DJ in/around the pool & bar area from 7pm until 00:20am which we were keen to attend.
We already had dinner reservations elsewhere but planned to come back and enjoy the hotel facilities later on in the evening.
When we arrived back to the crazy bear after dinner at 11pm we were refused entry by the doorman.
We explained that we were guests. They requested to see our keys, which we were happy to show. However, they still said âthey werenât letting any people in as it was hardly worth it at that timeâ.
We felt as though they didnât believe that we were guests & after becoming aware that we were had no interest in assisting us further.
As you can imagine we were very disappointed. Not to even be able to get some refreshments for our room. We asked multiple times why it was a problem and they said it was too late to enter.
As explained previously, it was our anniversary & also our first night away from our 3 month old son. So we didnât want to challenge the doorman over and over and end our night in a more negative way.
We made our way over to our room & had to enjoy what we could of our room by watching television.
As Iâm sure you would agree the cost of the room per night is not just for the enjoyment of a comfortable nights sleep, but it is also to enjoy the facilities that the crazy bear has to offer.
We sadly were deprived of this opportunity.
On check out, we spoke to the lovely member of staff who had checked us in the day before and explained our situation from the previous night.
The member of staff was really disappointed with the doormenâs approach and said that as guests we should be allowed 24 hour access as guests. The entertainment was not finished & we could have enjoyed a few hours in the bar area at least until last orders. They did not have full capacity and therefore was no reason whatsoever to deny us access.
The member of staff apologised profusely & explained that this should not have been the service we had received.
We have saved for a while now to enjoy a break away at the crazy bear and feel really disappointed with the treatment we received (not by the check in staff but by the security). I canât praise the check in staff enough.
We would have likely spent a fair amount in the bar & finished off our evening very content & happy experiencing the entertainment you had to offer.
We went back to our room feeling rather humiliated & un-valued of our custom.
I feel the security staff have let the company down massively in this instance and cost the crazy bear a few potential guests as I would honestly avoid at all costs.
Mainly since I have emailed multiple times to customer service to complain & had NO RESPONSE. Despite being advised by the check in staff to do so.
